Rival Waves at 3Ten ACL Live on 8-5-2023

Big show for the band tonight at 3Ten ACL Live to celebrate the release of our record, A Meaningless Chaos, which was released on 8-4-2023. We’re headlining the show at the 3Ten ACL Live venue which is on the street level of the ACL Moody Theater. The venue holds about 300 people so we’re hoping to play for full house. The Dead Coats and Lola Tried are the two other killer bands that are playing with us so it should be a fun night for all

.

Getting ready to play in just a few minutes….

The setlist tonight, listed below. We’re playing Heroes, by David Bowie, which is a rare cover for the band so should be fun…

Here’s the “run of show” notes that the venue provides to the bands. This includes the schedule for soundcheck and show times. 3Ten was really good about making sure this info was supplied to the band. They also have a great green room, right behind the stage which has it’s own TV monitor, comfortable benches, bathroom, kitchenette, refrigerator, coffee maker, ice, water etc. This really is a nice feature as it allows a place for the bands to hang out while the other bands are playing and just a nice quiet place to chill before the show. They also provided another similar area for guests of the band.

So, when you play at a venue, the typical thing to do is supply the place with a diagram of the stage setup for you’re particular band. This lets the sound engineer know where everyone is at and where he or she needs to place the gear, cables, amps, etc.

Because we are the headlining band, we’ve agreed to, “Backline” or supply the other bands with our gear if they so choose, mainly it’s the drums and bass amp setup. This helps move things along between bands. Usually, a drummer will bring their own cymbals, sticks, drum throne etc. and the bass player just needs their bass, cables and whatever effects they want to use.

I supplied my Mesa Subway 800w amp head along with the 15″ cabinet. I must say that little bass rig does a great job! The sound engineer even asked me about it and what it cost as I think he’s looking to get a good rig for himself.

One of the very cool things about playing with other bands is just getting to know them. Due to the soundcheck times and the fact that we share the green room, they’re plenty of time to chat it up with the other players. Lola Tried is made up of 4 members, below.

The Dead Coats were the heaviest band on the schedule. I talked with their player, Alex, about the tunings they use and its made up a few different dropped tunings which allow the band to have a very low growl when playing. The guitar player had just picked up his Orange guitar rig the day before and combined with the sound system at 3Ten, it sounded AWESOME!!
